Once again, Eddy and Adam have taken a traditional story and completely changed its fabric. Not only is our beloved Rumpelstilskin the man with the tricky name, the Beast, and the Dark One, he is now the elusive crocodile from Captain Hook lore. But who didn’t see that coming?

Overall the episode seemed to serve to set up the rest of the season, not overly impressing the audience, but also not destroying the entire show’s reputation. There was a considerable amount of Rumbelle fan service, a lovely peek at the toned arms of Prince Charming (Josh Dallas), and plenty of glimpses at Hook’s (guest star Colin O’Donoghue) mesmerizing eyes. Though three main characters were missing this week, it seemed to hold its ground as a respectable episode.

The peeks at Rumpelstiltskin’s (Robert Carlyle) past, the truth of his wife’s story, and his quest to find his son gave me deeper respect for his intentions. As did his actions toward Belle (Emilie DeRavin), when he decided to let her go once and for all–realizing that magic would always be his crutch, keeping the people he loves at arm’s length. But fear not Rumbelle-ers, there is still hope for your beloved couple. Where there are hamburgers and iced tea, there is still always a chance.

On a side note, it was nice to see more of Meghan Ory again. Of all the minor characters, she is definitely a favorite, and despite not having a large piece of story, I thought she stole her scenes. Unlike Ory, our dear friend Eric Keenleyside, who plays Belle’s father, fell short of what I would have hoped. But it sure seems as though we may not see him again for a while, especially after his attempts to wipe his daughter’s memory. So in the end? Not a terrible episode, no. Many fans enjoyed it, others did not. I guess they’ll just stand divided on this one.

And to close, WHY does Cora have affiliations with every tainted character on this show? The woman gets around, that’s for sure.

Don’t forget to tune in new week for the reveal of Dr. Whale’s identity and the return of Daniel, Regina’s since deceased beloved. How do they tie together? Watch and find out.
