The Mindy Project’s season finale went the same way most of the season has: with some solid jokes, uneven pacing, great guest stars and a lot of tension between Danny and Mindy. I’m not entire sure where to start, as a great deal of this episode felt smashed together: first Mindy and Casey were trying to figure out how to make a long distance relationship work, then Mindy decided to go with him to Haiti, then they went on a camping trip with an (underused) Christina and Danny, then there was a party for Casey and Mindy going away, where

As we near the end of The Mindy Project’s first season, the show seems to want to get bigger and better, and haul back as many guest stars as they possibly can. This is great for the audience, especially when the guest stars are all fantastic comedic actors such as: Bill Hader, Mark DuPlass and Anders Holm, all playing Mindy’s ex-boyfriend, ex-boyfriend/work competition, and ex-boyfriend for half the episode/current boyfriend for the other half. I think that Mindy Kaling is eventually going to use every funnyman in the business to play her love interests, and I can’t wait to see

The theme of The Mindy Project this week was forgiveness, and how apparently none of our main characters can accomplish that. This all starts pretty early when Mindy’s version of pillow talk is asking her new beau Casey (Anders Holm, last seen in “My Cool Christian Boyfriend”), if he would avenge her if she was murdered. He promptly ruined the mood by declaring he would not avenge her (and their two made-up children) but would instead forgive the murderer. The forgiveness train continued when Mindy’s ex-boyfriend Josh (Tommy Dewey) called her up. He knew she was coming to Santa Fe

Fans of The Mindy Project got lucky this week, as Fox decided to try out the show in a new spot, right after American Idol, along with their usual Tuesday time. This means we got double Mindy hijinks, double Danny Castellano snark, and, most importantly, double the tension between Mindy and Danny. Needless to say, it was a wonderful week. I’m not entirely sure which episode to start with, as the one that aired on Thursday was, in the episode order, technically supposed to air before the one that premiered on Tuesday. But these were pretty much standalone episodes, so

People from the past was a huge theme on The Mindy Project this week: Mindy was confronted by her ex-boyfriend Josh’s other girlfriend Heather (played by Ellie Kemper), while Danny had to deal with his childhood friend Stevie. Both faced difficult issues, as Heather wanted to move into Mindy’s building and Danny’s friend kept pumping him for pills.

It was Mindy’s birthday on The Mindy Project this week and she had a…semi decent birthday. I mean, she got a kind of lame birthday party with horrible gifts but got to have a slightly better party in the emergency room, thanks to Danny’s horrible flirting skills. Before you whip out the party hats, Mindy/Danny shippers, I should let you know that Danny was trying to flirt with Mindy’s friend Alex at Mindy’s incredibly lame birthday party. Even though she really wasn’t enthusiastic about her birthday this year, Mindy’s friends still decided to throw her a party. It might have gone over

The Mindy Project can never be criticized for getting great comedic guest stars: Seth Meyers, Allison Williams, Mark Duplass, etc. But Seth Rogan has got to be the best catch they’ve gotten. His appearance as Mindy’s old camp love Sam has a nice touch of romance and sentimentality to it. Sam and Mindy first meet at summer camp, when he became her first friend and they shared a summer love. When Sam shows back and wants to reconnect, Mindy eagerly hopes to see if she can replicate the romance from her summer as a 13 year old. The catch? Sam’s

I don’t know about you guys, but I think The Mindy Project has been extremely good for the past two weeks. (On a related note, I apologize about not having a review up last week, I was sick.) After the lukewarm reception to her show, Mindy Kaling put her show through a minor reboot. Some of the ideas, like Anna Camp asking to be reduced to recurring status, were out of her hands. Others, like nurse Beverly (Beth Grant) now no longer a nurse but a receptionist, are her ideas. And so far they’ve proven to help, rather than hinder the

Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak have worked together for almost a decade on The Office, playing the dysfunctional couple Kelly and Ryan, whose relationship was full of fights one minute, and passionate making out the next. When Mindy Kaling left The Office, B.J. Novak also left in order to work on The Mindy Project. With both of them working on the same project, it makes sense they’d want to be on the same screen again. Luckily, or maybe unluckily, depending on how much you liked Kelly and Ryan, their characters are much more mature and reasonable. Kind of.  Sort of.

Mark Duplass made a triumphant return to The Mindy Project this week – if you call having your brother interrupt a hookup with Mindy triumphant. All jokes aside, Duplass was a star player as midwife Brendan this week – let’s hope he stays around for a while because he is fantastic as the stuck-up midwife who seems to harbor some feelings for Mindy. Or, at the very least, seems to want to sleep with her. Mindy’s perfectly fine with that, because all she’s looking for is a hook-up. And Brendan is a perfect fit: Jeremy tells Mindy that she needs

When I saw the writing credit for The Mindy Project this week, I knew I was in for a good episode: Jeremy Bronson, the man who wrote this episode, is also the one who wrote the Christmas episode, which has been one of my favorite episodes of the season. And my enthusiasm was rewarded, as the intro of this episode was a funny and dark take on romantic clichés – Mindy and her boyfriend of the week take a carriage ride in Central Park, only for the horse to get a heart attack. Mindy and her boyfriend watch horrified as

I had guessed, from a variety of spoilers and the fact that the guest star boyfriends normally don’t last long on shows, that Josh was going to be leaving in “Josh and Mindy’s Christmas Party.” I even had a short intro paragraph written up about how disappointed I was…until the show revealed that Josh wasn’t the adorable, sweet guy he’d been in the past weeks. For a freshman comedy like The Mindy Project that’s trying to find its feet, it was a pretty big twist. Josh, it turns out, has a girlfriend, who he’s been seeing for two years.
