Well, it finally happened…again. Marshall and Lily found themselves bringing baby Marvin with them to MacLaren’s because Mickey got sick and had to take the week off. Though they justify themselves by ordering food so that they can say they’re at a restaurant that happens to also serve drinks, they decide they need a substitute nanny. Ted has a lot of time on his hands since his work at GNB finished (shouldn’t that get it’s own episode?) and he’s waiting to meet with a head hunter next week, so he offers to babysit and they immediately agree. Across the table,

The episode begins with Marshall sitting in front of a panel of judges. We already know from the last episode that the trial he just finished would change the course of his career, and it looks as though he’s in trouble. He starts by flattering them, but when they’re not amused, he tells them about how his former bro Brad conned him into thinking he needed a job at his firm so that he could gather information to use against him when he represented Gruber Pharmaceuticals in court. Marshall’s environmental law firm is suing the Pharmaceutical company for polluting the

With all of his friends in relationships, Barney realizes that he’s short a wingman. After kissing a woman goodbye and throwing her number away once she’s inside, Barney’s voice-over tells us that he needs a bro that’s just as much of a ‘dog’ as he is. As he continues down the street, he passes a fellow bro following suit. This new wingman is literally a dog, also parting ways with a conquest from the night before. The two bros acknowledge one another’s skills with the ladies and walk away together, happy as can be. Of course, this episode isn’t entirely

Now that Mickey is Marvin’s new nanny, Marshall and Lily are able to spend some time together for the first time in five months. They stop at MacLaren’s to see the gang, but they’ve been told not to share any stories with them that rank lower than an 8, so Ted isn’t able to tell them that Victoria’s dad is billing him $70K for the wedding he ruined and Robin has to keep quiet about how Nick gets all decked out in leather just to ride his motor scooter. The only big news Barney has is that he banged a

Barney begins the night, entering MacLaren’s wishing everyone a happy Bangtoberfest, his celebration of being single again. Sadly, this episode doesn’t feature the ‘Bangity Bang’ song at all. He treats the entire bar with Bangtoberfest swag, namely, a cannon to shoot T-shirts that read ‘This time it’s really not personal.’ Marshall then enters from somewhere and shares with Barney, Ted and Robin that Lily’s deadbeat dad showed up unannounced after he burned the house down with illegal fireworks. Robin recognizes him as a local news story she covered, though somehow she didn’t distinguish his face or the house she and

This week starts by highlighting the fact that as of summer, everyone is in a happy relationship: Ted & Victoria, Barney & Quinn, Nick & Robin, and Marshall, Lily & Marvin. Since that’s really boring, we flash to October (I’m assuming they won’t flash back to summer since it’s October now), and everyone’s fighting. Ted calls it ‘The Autumn of Breakups.’ The cause: Barney’s pre-nup. Arthur Hobbs is back this week, not to ruin Marshall’s life, but Barney’s. He convinces Barney that he needs to make Quinn sign a pre-nup by telling him the horror story of his ex-wife. His

The season begins at the Farhampton train station on a rainy night, where an old lady approaches to find Ted dressed in a tuxedo reading a book. When she sits next to him and asks if he was just at a wedding, he starts to tell her that he “doesn’t want to talk about it“, but then proceeds to tell her the story. It’s all very Forrest Gump, and classic Ted. He starts the story where he left off last season, standing in front of Robin on her wedding day. When Robin asks if Barney is OK, we flash to

I have a hard time writing about the HIMYM finale, because there weren’t a whole lot of plot twists for me to comment on, and because it was simply perfect. Marshall and Lily’s baby was born, aptly middle-named “Wait For It,” because we certainly were waiting a long time. I loved the I Am Spartacus homage on the bus ride, but I think it would have been funnier if Ted had dragged Robin out of the delivery room when she passed out. There’s not a whole lot to predict for next season since we already know that Barney doesn’t marry
